Did you know? For standard paper sizes to work out the next paper size, you simply need to double the length of the short-edge of the sheet. i.e. A4 to A3, take the size of A4 (210mm x 297mm) and double 210mm to make 420mm, meaning A3 = 297mm x 420mm.
For printing paper we actually always use 80 grams A2 paper. This does not mean that an A2 paper weighs 80 grams. The name is derived from how much 1 m² of paper (A0 size paper) weighs. An 80 gram A2 paper weighs 20 grams.
During the late 1940s and early 1950s, maintenance of the locomotives and the permanent way improved, so facilitating speed increases of the A4s. Pre-war speeds were never reached, although in 1959, 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley set a post-war steam speed record of 112mph. By the late 1950s, steam was being replaced by diesel power.
The area of A0 is 1 metre2. A1 has half that area, A2 is a half of A1, and so on. Thus the area of A4 is 1/16 m2. If the paper has a mass of 80 grams per m2 then 1 sheet of A4 will have a mass of
