Joined Mar 19, 2018. 741 Posts. #31 · Apr 3, 2020. You guys overthink things. 10W-40 has been the common recommended oil weight in most vehicles for decades. Many decades. 10W-30 has been superceding it because the (slightly) lighter summer number is (slightly) better for fuel mileage.

Plenty of bikes with 200-300k miles and no oil related problems using long interval changes. You have to factor in the cost of changing the oil at half the interval as well. Over say 200k miles that would be something like an additional 25x extra oil changes at about $65 a peice at todays prices.
CRF1100L is a Honda dirtbike with lights. CRF means (C)ourse (R)acer (F)ourstroke traditionally. The CR500 as example is a 500cc twostroke engine. This is no longer accurate, XRL would probably be a better name; in lineage that would make the Africa Twin a brother to the XR650L trail bikes.
