1.9 TDI BRM rebuild. Hi there, I'm really new to the TDI world. I bought a 06 Jetta MK5-A6 (226,000 miles) knowing it had engine problems. The previous owner had put multiple upgrades on. Karma 150 HP kit, including upgraded turbo and tuner, Colt stage 2 cam (regrind)w/ lifters and bearings MBRP full exhaust and fixed some other stuff.
Especially if any of those look or smell old. Check the engine oil level more frequently than you would with another car. Oil top ups between changes are typical. You can run it out of oil that way. Use only VW spec fluids. Ze Germans are NOT PLAYING AROUND when they specify a type of engine oil. And don't trust the oil the parts store gives you. We’ve seen them last on average over 200,000 miles without any serious engine damage since they were built on the premise of TDI engines. Several times, we’ve seen cars run at 400,000 miles if they hadn’t already run that far. Is the VW 1.9 TDI a good engine? Engine 1.9 is considered to be the most reliable TDI with 90 hp with Bosch pump.
